Notably, Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos, is expected to emerge as the world’s top megacity (a city exceeding 10 million inhabitants) by the end of the century, highlighting the rapid urbanisation within the African continent.
The United Nations has released figures highlighting the top 10 countries expected to drive global overpopulation to the 9 billion mark and beyond.
Together, these 10 countries are expected to contribute 49% of the world’s human population growth by 2037.
Furthermore, it’s anticipated that Earth’s population will continue rising until it peaks in the 2080s, potentially surpassing 10 billion.
