World Population Increases By Over 75 Million In 2023
Data released on December 28 indicates that the world population has grown by a further 75 million in 2023.
According to the US Census Bureau, the global human population on January 1 2024 will be 75,162,541 higher than on New Year’s Day 2023, a growth of almost 1%.
At the start of 2024, 4.3 births and 2 deaths are expected worldwide every second, according to the Census Bureau.
The figures released indicate a slight slowing in population growth, attributed to several factors including declining fertility rates and proportionally fewer young people on the planet compared to elderly. The COVID-19 pandemic has also continued to impact population growth, with global life expectancy at birth falling slightly, and countries experiencing unequal recovery from the pandemic across the globe.
One thing that is certain, however, is that the human population will continue to grow, at least until the end of this current century. The United Nations predicts that, based on all evidence, the world human population will most likely peak at close to 11 billion by 2100.
