Israel Population Up One Per Cent In The Last Year
Israel’s population grew by around 101,000 to 10.148 million since last Rosh Hashanah (October 2 – October 4 2024), the country’s Central Bureau of Statistics announced last week.
The 1 per cent increase in population represents a slight decline in growth, down from 1.2 per cent recorded in the previous 12 month period.
The data also shows that only 25,000 new immigrants arrived in Israel in the last year, down from 33,000 the previous year, and 46,000 the year before.
Taken together with 21,000 Israelis who returned from abroad, and 5,000 more who immigrated via family unification procedures, the figure still falls short of approximately 79,000 Israelis who moved out of the country over the past 12 months, the CBS reports.
The bureau also states that 179,000 babies were born in Israel, slightly down from 183,000 in the previous 12 months. However, less deaths were reported, down from 55,000 who passed from Rosh Hashanah 2023 to 2024, to 50,000.
At the time of writing, the population of Israel sits at approximately 10.148 million, a significant 66 per cent increase since 2000. The fertility rate (average number of births per mother) is currently at 2.75.
